Getting Started in FamilySearch. FamilySearch is a web-based collaborative family tree that is free for anyone to use. In this workshop presenter Rex Forsythe will introduce participants to the elements of FamilySearch and how to use it to search out their ancestors' information and add it to the tree. This is slowly changing as more and more Irish records are discovered and placed online. British Home Children. From as early as 1618, Britain had a policy of shipping poor youth to their colonies including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States Colonies. From 1869 to as late as the 1970s, over 100,000 British children were shipped to overseas. Originally envisaged as an opportunity for otherwise impoverished youth, the forced emigration primarily resulted in a source of cheap labour, mainly as farm helpers and household servants. Dr. P. Roberts-Pichette, our presenter will give us fascinating information on this darker side of British immigration to Canada. Presented in the Relief Society Room 1:00pm to 2:00pm
Genealogy 101. This workshop is an introduction to the fascinating world of seeking out your ancestors. Topics will include how to start your research. Conventional methods of recording what you find. What are sources and why are they important. Finding sources within your own family. How to find local sources and what is available to you online. Finally, we will discuss the two different types of online family trees.
